DIY Doggie Birthday Crown

A year ago today, I adopted my sweet chihuahua-miniature-schnauzer mix (yes that's thing, so says the doggie DNA test!). Her name is Tracy and she has certainly lived up to her description as "the best dog in the whole world." Since we don't know her actual birthday, we're celebrating her adoptiversary!

For her special day, I wanted her to look the part of the princess she really is, so I tried my hand at a tiny crown. It turned out really cute if I do say so myself! This DIY doggie birthday crown is actually pretty easy, so read on to find out how your small dog too can look as royal as she acts :)

Materials for a Doggie Birthday Crown

  • A piece of felt
  • A piece of scrapbook paper
  • Scissors
  • Spray adhesive
  • Glue gun
  • Tulle
  • Pencil
  • Elastic

How to Make a Birthday Crown for Your Dog

1. Cut scrapbook paper in half

2. Spray your adhesive on the felt and press scrapbook paper on top of it

3. Cut felt to fit scrapbook paper

4. Lightly draw a triangle crown pattern on the felt (hint: they don't have to be perfect! It's actually cuter if they look "handmade")

5. Cut along the triangles

6. Cut a tab out of one end of your felt/scrapbook paper

7. Cut a slit at the other end of your felt/scrapbook paper

8. Slide the tab into the slit to make a full circle

9. Heat your glue gun and apply hot glue to secure the tab in place inside of the crown

10. Apply hot glue as necessary down the seam to flatten it

11. Make small holes on either side of the seam

12. Cut a tulle strip (about twice the circumference of the crown)

13. Put one end of the tulle through one of the holes

14. Twirl the tulle as you wind it around the crown

15. Thread the second end of the tulle through the second hole in the crown

16. Tie the ends in a double knot inside the crown

17. Cut off the ends of the tulle so they can't be seen outside the crown

18. Cut a piece of elastic to fit under your dog's chin up to her ears

19. Use your hot glue gun to attach the elastic to either side of the inside of the crown to create a chin strap

20. Let it dry and then put it on your puppy!
