Blue & White Baby Boy Nursery

Baby Daniel’s nursery has quickly become my new favorite room in the house, and I hope our little guy likes it as much as we do. We thought about painting the walls, or a wall, blue, but I’m glad we opted to keep them white and add color with art and blue accents instead. By using things we already had, buying some special new items and receiving thoughtful gifts, we filled the room with things that remind of us of our favorite people, places, animals and things. While we didn’t stick with a “theme” per se, since I had a lot of horsey things already, you’ll notice a subtle equestrian thread throughout, mixed in with other things both Jeff and I love.

Nursery Furniture & Carpet

The first big thing we got for the nursery was the crib and dresser set with a built-in changing topper. With white wood panels and little bronze metal accents, I love how it’s a mixture of a traditional and modern style, which I think we continued throughout the whole room. While these won’t be in there when baby boy is, for now we’ve put a few of the sweet stuffed animals he’s been gifted in his crib, along with his Boppy lounger and my Boppy nursing pillow. The new Rifle Paper blue bunny print made for the perfect nursing pillow cover which I found on Etsy from Wee Hours Handmade.

We already had the bookshelf and other little dresser, so the only other big piece we needed was a chair, and I could not love this one more. It swivels, rocks and reclines and is beyond comfortable. We added a lamp, tiny side table and pouf to complete this little corner where I can’t wait to rock and feed baby boy. I love how it also coordinates nicely with the Roman shades, behind which we have some blackout shades.

When it came to the carpet, I got a little overwhelmed looking at white and beige options, so started perusing blue ones instead and love how this one adds a little color space without being too overwhelming. It wasn’t too baby-ish either, so I thought we could keep it for his big boy room too. The floor space wouldn’t be complete without a cozy spot for baby’s big sister, our pup Tracy Rene. I love this little blue doggy-patterned bed that my mom got for her, and she loves it too. It’s one of my favorite things to see her hanging out in the nursery waiting on baby brother!

Blue & Green Artwork

When I was thinking about artwork I already had that might be good for the nursery, I remembered this horse painting, and it ended up working perfectly above the crib, and the sky tied in nicely with all the other blue accents. Above the dresser/changing table, I already had a little gallery wall from the previous room set up, so I just swapped out the artwork with prints I collected for the nursery – cute crayons from Memphis artist Shelby Monteverde, a blue abstract print from one of my favorite artists Britt Bass, and some sweet words from local shop Crew + Co. The cross was already in this room, and I added a picture from our baby announcement shoot with Kasey Hampton Photography. Last but not least, the drawing was one I did of my husband Jeff and his mom several years ago. I can’t wait to see how much baby Daniel looks like his dad did as a baby!

On the wall behind the chair, I hung a little banner I already had, and a beautiful blue and green abstract painting from local Memphis artist Meghean Warner.

Books, Shelves & Decor

When looking for nursery inspiration, I saw so many cute floating book shelves and decided to give it a try, with a Target mirror in the middle. Although the rest of the room is pretty much decorated like I would any other room, I love the sweet little kid feel that the books bring to the space. The displayed books are a mix of some of my own childhood favorites and a few newer titles we’re excited to read to baby Daniel.

In addition to storage baskets, the various levels of the bookshelves have more books and a collection of stuffed animals, toys, photos and mementos, including the beginnings of what I’m sure will be a large fleet of airplanes and a whole airport, if he’s anything like his dad. I’m not sure if this will be final placement for my blue Kelly Wynne diaper bag, but it sure looks cute on this wall hook for now, and I can’t wait to use it!

Baby Clothing Storage & Organization

While not necessarily part of the décor, I wanted to share a little bit about baby boy’s clothing organization too. I love these drawer dividers to keep his onesies and sleepers neat and tidy, and these blue velvet mini hangers are just about the cutest thing I’ve seen! I also love this blue and white rope hamper from the Container Store for laundry.

As you can tell, I had a lot of fun decorating baby boy Daniel’s nursery and am grateful to his dad for supporting my ideas, building the furniture and hanging everything perfectly. Now all we need is a baby!
